[오늘의 생활영어] would you take that call? 전화좀(대신) 받아주실래요?

(Lynn's telephone rings)

(린의 전화가 울린다)

Lynn: Would you take that call? I just don't have time to talk to anyone.

린: 전화좀 받아줄 수 있어? 아무하고도 얘기할 시간이 안돼.



Roberta: Lynn Smith's office.

로버타: 린 스미스 사무실입니다.

Caller: Is Lynn Smith there?

전화 건 사람: 린 스미스씨 계시나요?

Roberta: No I'm sorry. Miss smith is away from her desk.

로버타: 죄송하지만 안계세요. 스미스씨는 지금 자리에 안계세요.

Caller: When will she be back?

전화 건 사람: 언제 돌아올까요?

Roberta: That's hard to say. She's tied up for most of the day. May I take a message?

로버타: 그건 잘 모르겠네요. 오늘 계속 바쁘실텐데요. 메시지를 전해드릴까요?

Caller: Yes. This is her mechanic. Just tell her that her car is ready to be picked up.

전화 건 사람: 네. 정비소거든요. 차 수리 다 마쳤으니까 와서 가져가시면 된다고 전해주세요.

Roberta: Thank you. I will.

로버타: 그럴게요. 고맙습니다.

기억할만한 표현

* (one) is away from (one’s) desk: 자리에 없다

“Jim’s away from his desk right now. He’ll be back in about ten minutes.”

(짐은 지금 자리에 없습니다. 10 분 후면 돌아올 겁니다.)

* that’s hard to say: 대답하기 어렵네요. 잘 모르겠는데요.

Jim: “How will you be able to buy a new car?” (자네 어떻게 새 차를 사려고 그래?)

Roger: “That’s hard to say.” (그건 나도 잘 모르겠어.)

* to be tied up for most of the day: 종일 거의 내내 바쁘다

“I was tied up for most of the day today. It was busy at the store.”

(전 오늘 거의 쉴 새 없이 바빴어요. 가게가 아주 바빠서요.)
